"Into the Dragon's Den: Practicing KFL business communication skills through project-based learning"

Penn State University Press
2018

Project-based learning (PBL), despite its potential for creating links between knowledge and action and enabling students to apply their knowledge to solving an authentic problem (Markham, 2011), has been underutilized in language courses. This article describes a project-based activity designed and implemented in a Korean for occupational purposes course at a university in Canada. Modeled after the structure of the television program Dragons' Den, the project provides students with a realistic simulation to practice and develop presentation skills. Working in teams, students choose a product or service item and develop a range of promotion plans culminating in a sales pitch to “investors.”
