Biography

Zerui Li is an MA student in East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto. His current research focuses on the urban history of Harbin, his hometown. More specifically, he wants to explore how Harbin became the "internationalist" city in the early 20th century and the emergence and disappearance of the label "multiculturalism" in historical narrative. He also has broad interests in the topic of modern Northeastern China's history and culture. Beyond that, he wishes to further develop his knowledge of modern and contemporary Chinese political history.
