Biography
Brigid MacAoud is a MA student in the Department of East Asian Studies focusing on modern Japanese literature and culture. Her current research explores representations of suicide in Japanese literature written during the First and Second World Wars. In particular, Brigid examines the sociopolitical and cultural intersections embedded in suicidal narratives to situate them within a wider historical lineage of suicide in Japan. She is also broadly interested in historical treatments of death and the supernatural in Japanese literature and artwork. Outside of academia, Brigid enjoys spending her time reading with a freshly made cup of tea and going for leisurely walks around the city.
