The Department of East Asian Studies is proud to announce that Associate Professor Yurou Zhong’s book, Chinese Grammatology: Script Revolution and Literary Modernity, 1916–1958, has been selected as the only honourable mention for the Joseph Levenson Prize (China, Post-1900) presented by the Association for Asian Studies (AAS). The prize, along with another of the same name that celebrates works focusing on China pre-1900, is “awarded to the English-language books that make the greatest contribution to increasing understanding of the history, culture, society, politics, or economy of China” (for more information on the prizes, visit the AAS website). Professor Zhong’s book was published in 2019 by Columbia University Press.

We congratulate Professor Zhong on her well-deserved recognition!
