The EAS Korean Program hosted the 20th Annual National Korean Speech Contest at the Earth Sciences Centre on Saturday, March 14, 2026. This year’s contest welcomed 41 participants from across Canada, including representatives from British Columbia and Manitoba.
The competition was exceptionally strong, and we are proud to share that three students from the EAS Korean courses received awards, including the Grand Prize.
Sarai Smith‑Henry, a student in EAS110Y1: Modern Standard Korean I, competed in the Beginner category and won the Grand Prize. Her achievement earned her a scholarship for the summer language program at Sogang University, along with a round‑trip airline ticket.
This event was made possible through the generous support of the Department of East Asian Studies and the Centre for the Study of Korea, which contributed to venue arrangements and prize sponsorship.
