Description

Language: Chinese (English interpretation will be provided)

Textbooks have an indispensable role in Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) classrooms. They outline the ladders in language acquisition, lay out the details in accumulative practice, provide tools and materials for assessment and much more. Even though the role of the textbooks is never challenged, the recent pedagogical trends toward task-based teaching and technology-assisted individualized learning have opened up new discussions over the future forms, content, and design of the CFL textbooks. This panel brings together scholar-teachers in leading Canadian Chinese Language Programs to explore the paths toward the next generation CFL textbooks. The topics discussed include but not limited to improving learners’ listening skills, incorporating AI technology, CFL cultural contexts in Canada, intercultural designs, and Classical Chinese in advanced Chinese classes
